The California Pear Deal is just around the corner. The official industry estimates have been made public California Pear Advisory Board. The total fresh Bartlett crop is estimated at 2.83 million 36# tight fill equivalent boxes, down 18% from the 2009 season total. All other varieties are expected to be very similar to last year’s supply. Official start dates are July 19th for Sacramento Delta Bartletts, August 9th for Mendocino County Bartletts, and August 14th for Lake County Bartletts. Red Crimson pears will be available as soon as the first Bartletts. The first Bosc pears will be available July 31st, all other varieties beginning in August.

Scully Packing Company will again be marketing fruit from each district in California. Approximately 20% of our Bartlett pack volume originates in the early Sacramento Delta district, while 80% comes from the renowned Mountain district comprised of Lake and Mendocino counties. In addition to Bartletts, we will be carrying a full line of varietal pears (Bosc, Red Crimson, Hailey Red, Seckel, Forelle, and Comice) as well as Organic Bartlett pears from Lake County. Although the industry has predicted the 18% decrease in the total Bartlett fresh market mentioned previously, our company expects to be only 5% off last year’s pack.

On the sales desk this year are Kyle Persky, Stella Giese, Phil Scully, as well as Tom Frawley.
